When buying your mattress, you can select one of two cover options: the ultrabreathable Tencel cover (what I picked) or the GlacioTex cooling cover, which pulls heat from your body for an even more cooling bedding option. But the cooling benefits run deeper than this mattress’s top layer: Our testing lab results showed that the Helix Midnight Luxe only heated up 3 degrees Fahrenheit during our temperature regulation test, which we consider an excellent result.
Motion isolation
Since I share my bed with my boyfriend, it’s important that our mattress isolates motion well. This means when he tosses and turns or gets up to go to the bathroom, the mattress would be able to absorb his movement so I don’t feel it on my side of the bed (and vice versa). The Helix Midnight Luxe scored well for this category in our testing lab: A tester placed a glass of wine on one side of the bed and rolled around on the other, and the liquid barely splashed around.
Materials
The Midnight Luxe is made of a whopping six layers. There’s the cooling pillow top layer made from your choice of two materials (the aforementioned breathable Tencel or GlacioTex cooling fabric). Beneath are three foam layers: a contouring responsive foam, then cooling copper foam, then a transitional supportive foam that rests atop the spring layer. Made up of 1,000 individually wrapped coils, this tier of the stack uses a zoned support system to be stronger under your hips (an area where side sleepers are prone to experience pressure buildup) and keep your spine aligned. Holding up the whole stack is the base layer made of a dense foam.
Trial period
Helix offers a 100-night sleep trial with your mattress purchase, but you’re required to keep the mattress for the 30-day break-in period. After the 30 days (but before 100), you can return it. Helix also offers a 10-year warranty or 15-year warranty if it’s the Plus or Luxe Mattress, so you can feel confident in your choice when you’re checking out.
Bottom line
The Helix Midnight Luxe is plush, supportive, and contouring to my body, especially as a side and stomach sleeper. Its combo of springs and squishy foam has kept me comfortable and well-rested for six months. Now that I’ve experienced the high-quality Helix Midnight Luxe mattress, it’s hard to sleep on anything else.
FAQs
How long do Helix mattresses last?
The Better Sleep Council, a sleep-research organization, recommends you replace your mattress every seven years because its materials break down over time. And that’s true for any mattress—including luxury models like the Helix Midnight Luxe. Other signs it’s time to shop for a new mattress include wear and tear like holes and sagging and just not sleeping as well as you used to.
Is the Helix Midnight Luxe a firm mattress?
To score a mattress for firmness, testers in our lab rated the Midnight Luxe after lying on it in all sleeping positions. When we averaged results, the Midnight Luxe got a medium-firm score of 6 out of 10, with testers indicating it felt plush but supportive around their pressure points.
How long does it take for the Helix Midnight Luxe to expand?
According to Helix, after unboxing your mattress, rolling it out on your bedframe, and carefully using scissors to remove the plastic wrap, your Midnight Luxe requires 30 to 45 minutes to expand.
Is the Helix Midnight Luxe worth it?
Picking the best mattress to suit your needs is ultimately a personal matter, but certain factors like your sleeping position and body size will help guide you to the best option for you. We particularly like the Helix Midnight Luxe for hot sleepers, side sleepers, stomach sleepers, and people who share a bed with a partner. If you’re not sure if it’s a good option for you, consider making use of Helix’s 100-night trial period.
